ASEAN and Megaregionalism: Challenges Ahead
February 26, 2021

Michael G. Plummer
Eni Professor of International Economics
News Description
In a post published by the American Committee on Asian Economic Studies, co-author Michael Plummer examines ASEAN's cooperation program in the context of emerging megaregional trade arrangements, namely the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement on Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). According to Plummer, while these arrangements are critical to ASEAN's long term goal of deeper integration, external challenges like the US-China trade war and the Covid-19 pandemic may have long-term implications on global trade.
