Stefano Antonio Bolatto is Adjunct Professor at SAIS Europe
Associate Professor of Economic Policy, Department of Economics, University of Bologna

Stefano Bolatto is Associate Professor of Economic Policy at the Department of Economics, University of Bologna (UniBO). He obtained a PhD in Economics from the University of Turin and Collegio Carlo Alberto in 2013, with a dissertation on the relationship between heterogeneous firms’ productivity and aggregate welfare in quantitative models of international trade.

He was a visiting research scholar at Pennsylvania State University (2011–2012), where he developed his research under the supervision of Prof. Jonathan Eaton. He worked at the Italian National Council of Research (CNR), before joining UniBO in late 2014, first as a post-doctoral research fellow and later as Assistant Professor. He has also taught at the University of Trieste, at the Dickinson College Center, at the Johns Hopkins University – SAIS in Bologna, and at the University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) in Verona. In addition, he served as an external consultant for the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITC–ILO).

Prof. Bolatto’s research has been published in international peer-reviewed journals such as Economica, European Economic Review, Review of International Economics, Journal of Public Economic Theory, and International Economics. His main research interests include International Trade (organization of global supply chains, trade elasticity estimation, exporting firm behavior), Industrial Organization (asymmetric information in global markets), and Spatial Economics (agglomeration theory and new economic geography). He has received recognitions for his work, including the Early Career Award (2017) from the Global Production Network Center at the National University of Singapore, and the “Fabio Gobbo” Award for Best PhD Paper (2014) from the Italian Association for Industrial Economics and Industrial Policy (SIEPI).
