Giusella Finocchiaro is Adjunct Professor at SAIS Europe


Giusella Finocchiaro is Full Professor of Private Law at the University of Bologna, where she teaches Internet Law and Artificial Intelligence Law. She is a member of the Academy of Sciences of the Institute of Bologna.

She is the Founder of Studio Legale Finocchiaro, a boutique law firm based in Milan and Bologna, specializing in the law and regulation of new technologies, data protection and privacy, e-commerce, and electronic signatures.

From 2014 to 2022, she served as Chair of the UNCITRAL Working Group on Electronic Commerce. She was also a member of the UNIDROIT Working Group responsible for the development of the International Principles and Legislative Guidance on Digital Assets and Private Law.

She chaired the Commission appointed by the Italian Ministry of Justice to draft the legislative decrees implementing the European Union data protection framework. She is currently a member of the Artificial Intelligence Commission for Information established by the Department for Information and Publishing of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers of Italy, and a member of the Scientific Committee of the Observatory on the Adoption of Artificial Intelligence Systems in the Workplace established by the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies.

Professor Finocchiaro serves as a legal expert for the World Bank. She served as President of Fondazione del Monte di Bologna e Ravenna from 2015 to 2023 and currently holds several prominent corporate appointments.

She is the author of numerous publications on Internet Law, Artificial Intelligence Law, and digital regulation, including Diritto dell’intelligenza artificiale (Zanichelli, Bologna, 2025, 2nd ed.) and Intelligenza artificiale. Quali regole? (Il Mulino, Bologna, 2024), both translated into several languages.
