Climate change was in focus at an international conference in Venice organized by the Italian presidency of the G20 following the meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors. The conference discussed policies to address climate change and how to finance them, including through the involvement of the private sector. Among the speakers Nobel laureate William Nordhaus, US Treasury secretary Janet Yellen, IMF managing director Kristalina Georgieva, ECB president Christine Lagarde, UN Special Envoy for Climate Action, Mark Carney, together with the organizers, Italian minister Daniele Franco and Bank of Italy governor, Ignazio Visco. SAIS Europe associate fellow Alessandro Merli moderated a session on finance and climate change with, among others, the CEO of Generali, Philippe Donnet, the chairman of the IFRS Foundation, Erkki Liikanen and the co-chair of the G20 Sustainable Finance Working Group, Ma Jun.
