È record mondiale della spesa per armi.
May 8, 2026

Nathalie Tocci
Professor of the Practice
News Description
Nathalie Tocci & Stefano Zamagni were quoted in the Huffington Post. A new SIPRI report found that global military spending reached a record $2.887 trillion in 2025, driven largely by European rearmament and growing geopolitical insecurity, with Italy increasing defense spending by 20% and ranking 12th worldwide. Nathalie Tocci argued that Europe's military buildup is primarily a response to Russia's threat and the declining reliability of the United States, saying that 'without the U.S., Europe has to defend itself,' while Stefano Zamagni warned that an arms race risks creating a dangerous 'Thucydides trap,' diverting resources from social needs without ever allowing Europe to match the military power of Russia or the United States.
