Germany Votes, All the Contradictions of AFD: Now Parliament Could Even Call for Its Dissolution (in Italian)
May 6, 2025

Gianfranco Pasquino
Senior Adjunct Professor
News Description
The German Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution has declared that the political party Alternative für Deutschland (AFD), due to its xenophobic positions, poses a threat to Germany's democratic order. Professor Pasquino argues that while historical precedents in Germany, such as banning Nazi and communist parties between 1953 and 1956, might justify action against extreme movements, the true remedy for the "illness" of democracy is not legal restrictions but more democracy.
